Cloch Housing Association celebrated its 50th Birthday in 2018.
Inverclyde has seen a massive change in the 50 years with the closure of the shipbuilding yards and the rise of the service industries such as call centres. Throughout this period, Cloch has been there to support the community.
In the 50 years we have been operating, we have gone from renovating houses and flats for families, to building new homes, transferring properties from other social landlords, and renovation of our existing properties. We do this because we want to improve the housing and lives of people in Inverclyde. We are led by a committed voluntary Board made up of local people, some tenants, and some professional people, who look after the strategic direction of the Association and employ professional staff to run the organisation day to day.
We have expanded our area of operation every decade. We now have houses spread throughout the East End of Greenock, Port Glasgow, Larkfield, and Inverkip. We have built and renovated houses, four in a block cottage flats and tenements. In doing so we have regenerated areas such as Gibshill, Maukinhill and the Strone in Greenock. This and many other areas now offer modern housing and infrastructure and at the same time, we bring help supporting tenancies, welfare benefits advice, and a range of activities such as gala days and community projects.
In 2012, Cloch entered a new partnership arrangement with Oak Tree Housing Association in Greenock who we work closely with. Although Cloch is a subsidiary organisation, we operate and are governed independently. We do however work jointly in a number of key service areas, such as Finance and ICT, a Common Housing Register and we now have the ability to jointly tender and procure many contracts.
In 2021, we moved from being a subsidiary of Oak Tree Housing Association, to being independent again.
